Ah, the classic countertop conundrum! So, picture this: the interior designer and client have finally landed on the perfect countertop – the color sings, the veining dances, it's a match made in design heaven! Then... BAM! The supplier drops the bomb: that specific finish is no longer available. Cue the record scratch.

This situation can range from a minor hiccup to a major design detour. The interior designer now has a few key moves to make:

* Immediate Communication: First and foremost, clear and prompt communication with the client is crucial. Explain the situation honestly and apologetically (even though it's not their fault!).

* Investigate Alternatives: The designer needs to quickly dive back into the supplier's inventory. Are there similar finishes in the same material? Are there other materials that could achieve a comparable look and feel?

* Present Options Clearly: Don't overwhelm the client. Curate a few well-considered alternatives, highlighting the pros and cons of each in relation to the original choice and the overall design concept. Visual aids (samples, images) are super helpful here.

* Revisit the Design (If Necessary): In some cases, the unavailability of the finish might necessitate a slight pivot in the overall design. Perhaps a different backsplash tile would now complement the available countertop options better. The designer needs to be prepared to explore these adjustments.

* Negotiate with the Supplier: The designer can also try to negotiate with the supplier. Is there any chance of a special order? Are there any similar discontinued finishes in a different batch? Sometimes, a little persistence can yield unexpected results.

Before you start choosing paint color, you have to identify the real need that is driving you to redecorate your home. It often comes from an unsatisfied space in our spirit or our mind or our heart that is calling for some need or want that is yearning to be met. Sometimes this can manifest between a couple arguing over what finish to use for their floors but often they are trying to bring some thing into their space that will meet a deeper need, our process spends the first part diving into these needs and becoming really clear about what is your driving force underneath it all and what do you need to bring more of in your home and life.
We then attribute different zones in the home that can be used to cater to these needs . Then we start to examine what the feeling is, that each person wants to feel when they enter those spaces.
Only then, do we start to look at furnishings and finishes layouts and design elements.

Guess what? We renovated this space over seven years ago and our clients sold their beautiful house this year 2024 in absolutely no time. The real estate agent couldn’t believe that it had been that long since the renovation happened. It’s good to be a little bit fearless and do things differently for yourself when decorating or designing your new space.
The truth is everybody wants to be pushed a little bit past their comfort zone and to feel supported, to make sure there are no mistakes made. That’s what we love to do, we sometimes jokingly say we are the toast and you are the butter meaning we bring the warmth and support and make you feel like it’s OK to take some chances.
